Dr. Scott Edington
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Scott Edington provides executive leadership and oversight for Deep Labs. Edington’s career spans over two decades of creating next generation technology capabilities in the Payments, Defense, and Intelligence sectors.
Prior to co-founding Deep Labs, Edington served as the Global Head of Research and Development for Visa Inc. Edington played a critical role in both the formulation and execution of Visa’s innovation and technology strategies and served as a member of Visa’s Architectural Leadership Board (ALB).
Prior to joining Visa, Edington was a technology executive at Booz Allen Hamilton where he ran the firm’s Technology Injection (emerging technologies) practice. In this capacity, he was responsible for all of Booz Allen’s technology injection, R&D, strategic prototyping, and knowledge management and information sharing efforts. Edington also directed the firm’s external technology relationships with Academia, National labs, the vendor community and various technology incubators.
Edington holds degrees from the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins University; and industry certifications in the areas of security, strategy, and network computing.
Chief Technology Officer
Jiri Novak is a top performing technology leader with over two decades of financial services experience. Novak’s expert leadership of large-scale data platforms has directly impacted critical decision making, operational quality, performance, and profitability at major organizations including Visa and JPM Chase.
Novak is Chief Technology Officer at Deep Labs leading all aspects of software development including architecture, design, platform security, client engagement and technical support.
Prior to Deep Labs, Novak worked as the CTO at Uphold (formerly Bitnet) where he was leading next-generation data products including architecture, R&D, design, mining/analytics, and development. Novak also worked as a Chief Data Architect at Visa leading the merchant services data platform vision, architecture, and implementation with a focus on security, scalability, and resiliency and at JPM Chase leading design and delivery of analytical services and financial data products.
Novak holds a Master’s degree from Czech Technical University; and certifications including but not limited to SCPM (Stanford Certified Program Manager), Cloudera Certified Hadoop Administrator, OCP (Oracle Database Certified Professional), and Teradata Certified Professional.
Chief Financial Officer
Bill Maw is the Chief Financial Officer of Deep Labs. He spent four years as CFO at Covius Holdings, Inc., a technology and service provider in the mortgage sector. Prior to Covius, Bill spent more than a decade as CFO and a Member of the Executive Committee at Liquidnet Holdings, Inc., a global financial technology company that facilitates equities and fixed income trading for leading asset management firms. During his time at Liquidnet, Bill led the company’s capital-raising process, oversaw acquisitions and was responsible for financial operations, forecasts, business performance analysis and reporting. Bill also spent ten years at GE Capital and Price Waterhouse, where he held a series of senior finance positions.
Bill currently sits on the Board and is the Chair of the Audit Committee at PYXERA Global, Inc., an international NGO. He was educated in the UK and completed his Foundation in Accountancy at Sheffield Polytechnic. He is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
VP of Sales and Marketing
Brian Grech is the Head of Sales & Marketing at Deep Labs. Brian has held leadership roles at PayPal, where he led the design, launch, portfolio management and pricing of the PayPal Working Capital small business loan, and at Bank of America, where he ran the bank-wide Prepaid business and also led the Consumer Payables sales function nationally. Brian also has experience in payments and sales strategy at JPMorgan, and in strategy consulting to retail financial institutions at First Manhattan Consulting Group.
Head of People and Culture
Alyssa Patnode is the Head of People and Culture at Deep Labs. Alyssa has served in a variety of senior HR roles in both technology companies and consulting firms, and has deep experience creating positive culture and workplace experiences alongside operational rigor. Alyssa comes to us from Couchbase, where she led as the Head of Employee Engagement and Experience. Prior to that, she spent time at Deloitte, and Groesbeek Advisors, crafting people and culture solutions for both private sector and government clients. Alyssa is also a former Naval officer and prior enlisted veteran with over fifteen years’ experience, most significantly in the Special Operations and Intelligence communities.
Howard Wettan is the General Counsel at Deep Labs. A technology attorney for more than twenty years, Howard was most recently a Partner at White & Case, where he helped companies anticipate and adapt to growth opportunities while navigating ever-changing legal and regulatory environments.
Prior to re-joining White & Case as a Partner in 2018, Howard was a senior in-house attorney at Visa and Apple, where he worked on the launch of Apple Pay. Howard served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York and law clerk to Robert W. Pratt, Federal District Judge in the Southern District of Iowa.
Chief of Staff
Francisco Martin-Rayo is the Chief of Staff at Deep Labs. Francisco was formerly a Principal in the public sector practice at Boston Consulting Group, where he advised senior government leaders on strategy, organizational transformations, change management, and successful implementation of policy agendas. He served as a Next Generation National Security Leaders Fellow, a Presidential Leadership Scholar, and is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
